An AI phone agent for your business. Not live yet.
The same assistant that answers on your website, answering your phone when you can't: common questions, caller details, and urgent calls transferred to you. I'm testing it now and taking names for a small local pilot.

- Same bot as your chat
Kia ora, you've reached Example Plumbing's AI assistant. How can I help?
Our hot water cylinder is leaking in the garage.
Sorry to hear that. Is water pooling right now, and what suburb are you in?
Yes, quite a bit. We're in Hillcrest.

Where things are at
- Platform: it runs on DocsBot Voice Agents, which DocsBot lists as beta. Voice is a setting on the same bot as your website chat, on the DocsBot Standard plan you pay DocsBot for directly.
- Phone number: my New Zealand number is still going through the phone carrier's approval process, so there's no live demo line yet. I can demo it in a web browser in the meantime.
- Pilot: once the number is approved, I'll run it with a handful of local businesses, test it on real calls, and only then offer it more widely.
How it will work
- You keep your number. Calls forward from your existing number to your assistant's NZ number when you choose: after hours, when you're busy, or when you don't pick up.
- It tells callers they're speaking with an AI assistant, using wording you approve.
- It answers from the same website content and documents as your chat assistant, and says when it doesn't know.
- It takes the caller's details during the conversation, and they're emailed to your team.
- Urgent calls can be transferred to your mobile or office during the days and hours you set. Outside those hours, callers can leave a message.
- You can cap call length and daily call time.
What it won't do (yet)
- No text messages: the NZ numbers I use are voice-only, so summaries come by email.
- Booking straight into your calendar during a call isn't confirmed yet. For now it takes a preferred time and passes it on.
- There's no Kiwi-accent voice: DocsBot offers 10 voices to choose from, and you can hear them before we pick one.
- It doesn't give medical, legal or safety advice beyond what you've approved, and it tells callers to ring 111 in an emergency.
What it costs
Installation by me: NZ$2,000 incl. GST NZ$1,000 incl. GST with an email code (Get 50% off: enter your email for a code). You pay DocsBot directly for the Standard plan (US$149/month, about NZ$263; prices set by DocsBot, see their pricing page). DocsBot's voice agents (beta) are included in Standard, so there's no extra DocsBot fee: it's the same plan and the same bot as your website chat.
As a DocsBot partner, I may receive a commission from DocsBot when you subscribe. It doesn't change what you pay.
Questions
When will it be ready?
When my NZ number is approved and I've tested it properly on real calls. I won't give a date I can't promise. Join the pilot list and I'll let you know.
Do I need a new phone number?
No. You keep your number and set your phone to forward calls to the assistant when you choose.
Can I start with website chat now?
Yes, and that's what I recommend. When the phone pilot opens, you can move up to it without starting again: it's the same assistant.
Is it the old "AI receptionist" you advertised?
It replaces it. My earlier phone-only plans with included minutes have been retired; the phone agent now runs on DocsBot as part of your chat assistant.
Want to be in the phone pilot?
Tell me about your calls and I'll let you know when the pilot opens. In the meantime, website chat is available now.
